Who Must Register?
You must "Register for the First Time"

will take about 5 minutes or less!), you will be asked to select
a personal username and password, provide contact information, and
create a ZotLink Account Registration.
The Registration Process
-
Enter your First and Last Name. Be sure to use the name
in the Registrar's database.
-
Enter your UCI Student ID #.
- Choose a personal Username and Password that you can remember.
-
Click on "Create My Account" and enter requested
information.
-
Create your "ZotLink Account Registration".
Some fields are required; some are optional. In either case,
please note that employers do not have access to your personal
information in your ZotLink Account Registration with the exception
of your U.S. citizenship status.
-
Create your "Contact Information."
-
Create your "Educational Information." If
you have a dual major or a major with a related minor or specialization,
use the Control key to highlight both. Your selections are limited
to two listings.
-
That's all there is to it! You will now have access
to the ZotLink system.
Update Your ZotLink Account Registration
Remember to update your contact information and "ZotLink
Account Registration" as changes occur. It's good practice
to review your ZotLink Account each quarter. Follow the online
prompts in the "My Account Registration" section of
the "My ZotLink" page to refresh your personal data.
-
Be sure your email and contact information is current.
Otherwise, you will miss receiving important communications from
employers.
-
Update all sections of your account, including your
major, degree, work authorization, VISA type, and graduate date.
This is especially important if you participate in On-Campus Interviews (OCI);
inaccurate information may prevent you from meeting an
employer's requirements for campus interview positions.
Login Instructions
Once you have registered with ZotLink, you're all
set to search job and internship opportunities. Each time you log in

Frequently Asked Questions
I already registered to use MonsterTrak. Why do I have to register again?
The UCI Career Center's new ZotLink Job & Internship Listings
have replaced MonsterTrak Job & Internship Listing service.
ZotLink is the only job & internship posting system utilized
by the UCI Career Center.
Why do I have to enter my UCI Student ID?
It is necessary to enter your UCI Student ID number just once so
that the system can verify your eligibility. After registration,
your login is your private and personal username and password.
What if my UCI Student ID doesn't work?
There are several possible reasons:
-
Data Entry Mistake: check the number on your Student
ID card to be sure you are using the right number and entering
it correctly.
-
Newly Admitted Student: You will have access to ZotLink
Week 1 of your first quarter. Please call (949) 824-6881 for
details.
-
Currently Registered UCI Student or Recent UCI Grad:
If you are a registered student for the current or previous quarter,
verify that your Student ID is listed with the Office of the Registrar.
If it isn't, contact the Registrar's office to find out why and
correct the problem.
-
If none of the above applies to you, please contact
the UCI Career Center at (949) 824-6881 or career@uci,edu
Who should I contact if the ZotLink Registration system doesn't accept my Student ID?
After you've double-checked to make sure your Student ID number
was entered correctly, call (949) 824-6881 or career@uci.edu
for assistance.
Why do I have to provide so much personal information in my Profile?
There are several reasons:
-
If you choose to use the Job Search Agents
feature, you will receive highly targeted email notification when new positions are listed
that match the employment preferences you specified in your ZotLink Account Registration.
This will make efficient use of your job search time.
-
If you plan to participate in the On-Campus Interview (OCI)
Program, the system matches the information in your ZotLink Account Registration with the
position requirements, and determines if you are eligible to submit your resume. If your
account information is not complete, you may be "screened out."
-
The UCI Career Center can search the system by various criteria, and notify you of
employment opportunities and career-related events that may be of particular
interest.
How do I log out securely?
Always click on "Logout" in the top right navigation bar of the "My ZotLink" page when you are
finished. If possible, also close your browser when you log out.

Job Search Agent
Set up Job Search Agents
The Job Search Agent is an optional automatic email notification feature of ZotLink. It will make it
easy to know when new positions are posted that match your employment preferences. You may create up
to 10 different Job Search Agents that will function independently and simultaneously.
-
In the "My ZotLink" page, click on the "Manage My Job Search" link.
- Click on "Job Search Agents".
-
Select criteria in each field. The default in each field is ALL. If you do not indicate your
preferences, you may receive a lot of irrelevant email notices.
-
Name your "Job Search Agent" and click "Create Agent" at the bottom of the page. The newly
created Agent will appear in a list at the top of the "Job Search Agents" page.
-
After you set up your Job Search Agents, you will receive an email with a link to a small
pop-up window where you select "UCI" and go to the "ZotLink Login" page. Once logged in,
you can view results for each of your Agents.
Tips for setting up your Job Search Agents
The Job Search Agent is an optional automatic email notification feature of ZotLink. It will make it
easy to know when new positions are posted that match your employment preferences. You may create up to
10 different Job Search Agents that will function independently and simultaneously.
-
Use various fields to enrich your search. For example, select several related categories within the
job function fields to maximize your results, yet screen out unrelated positions.
-
The use of a keyword will bring up all positions that contain that word somewhere in the job or
internship posting. It could be the name of the employer, or the word could appear in the job
description, qualifications, job function or industry.
-
If you are willing to work anywhere within the United States, you do not need to select every single
state. The default is United States. Select a single state, or several, if you have specific
preferences.
-
Your Job Search Agent will give you results tied to your employment preference criteria. If you did
not specify a particular time period, your Job Search Agent will give you all results each time. We
recommend editing your Job Search Agent regularly and to use the Jobs Posted After Date feature. If
you change the date range weekly, you will see only the newest results from your Job Search Agent
instead of having to sift through the results and try to figure out what you haven't viewed
previously.
How to Change or Delete Your Job Search Agents
-
Click on "Job Search Agents" link, located in the "Manage My Job Search" section of the "My ZotLink"
page.
- Click on "Edit" under the "Action" heading.
-
To unselect a choice, hold down the Control key and click your original choice again or select
another choice.
- When you're finished changing the Agent, click on "Update" at the bottom of the page.
- To delete an Agent, click on "Delete Agent" at the bottom of the page.
Job Search Documents
You may store up to 10 resumes, 10 cover letters, and 10 other job search documents, such as your
unofficial transcript or writing samples. You should create and save these documents in Word or other word
processing programs onto a floppy disk.
Note: Employers will be able to view the titles of "Job Search Documents" that you submit as part of the
On-Campus Interview (OCI) Program
application process. Always use appropriate titles when you name your documents.
Upload Resumes
- Select "Manage My Job Search Documents" from the "My ZotLink" page.
- Click "Store Resumes" and select "Click Here" to add your resume.
-
Browse to locate the resume you created and saved on your disk or hard drive. Resumes may be uploaded from
a variety of formats, including .doc and .pdf.
-
Give your resume a title. Be sure to use an appropriate and professional title; employers will be able to
view this information.
- Click "Upload Resume." Repeat the process to upload additional versions of your resume.
Upload Cover Letters and Other Job Search Documents
Follow the "Upload Resumes" procedures to upload your cover letters and other documents, including writing
samples and your portfolio. These documents can be created and saved in any word processing program, or in
.gif, .jpg, .eps, .bmp, or .pdf format. Do not try to attach uncompressed or graphic files larger than 10
megabytes.
Upload Your Unofficial Transcript
- Go to http://www.reg.uci.edu/registrar/studentaccess.html
- Select "Chronological Transcripts" or "Course Order Transcripts"
- Highlight the entire document. Copy and paste into Word, Notepad or any text editor.
- Save your document to a floppy disk, using an appropriate title.
- Follow the "Upload Resumes" procedures to upload your unofficial transcript into ZotLink.
Edit and Delete Job Search Documents
Edit Documents
Changes will be automatically updated in any resume, cover letter or other document if you have submitted it
previously to an employer through the ZotLink system. If an employer already has screened your original
document, there is no guarantee your revision will be noticed. Take a minute before you click "Submit" to be
sure you are satisfied with your attachments. Once a document has been submitted to an employer, it cannot be
withdrawn. Think of this as dropping off a letter at the post office or sending a fax.
- Go to "Manage My Job Search Documents" on the "My ZotLink" page.
- Click on "Store Resumes", "Store Cover Letters", "Store Other Documents", or "Store Transcripts".
-
Select the "Click here to update" option. This will take you to "Locate your Resume (or other document) on
your computer."
-
Edit your document in Word or other word processing program. Save on a floppy disk, using the same title.
- Click on "Upload Resume".
Delete Documents
Even if you delete a document from ZotLink, it will still be visible to any employer whom you have previously
enabled to receive your application materials.
Search for Jobs & Internships
From the "My ZotLink" page, you may click on the "Search Jobs & Internships" link to view positions posted
by employers for UCI only or for positions that are also listed at other major colleges and universities.
Search Criteria
You can search using any or all of the following criteria: industry, job function, state, country, type of work,
date job was posted and keyword. Keep in mind, the more restrictions you place on your search, the fewer job
and internship postings you will be able to view.
- Click on your choice of criteria.
-
Hold down the Control key to choose more than one item in a field. If you change your mind and want to remove
something from your search criteria, hold down the Control key and click on the item to remove.
- Click "Search" at the bottom of the page.
-
On the "Search Results" page, click on the job identification number or the job title to read and print the
job description. If the name of the employer is highlighted in the job description, it is a link to their
web site.
Apply for Positions
At the end of the position description, you can read how to apply. It may specify that you should apply: through
the system, on the employer's web site, or by mail, fax or email. If the message "How to Apply" is a link,
clicking on it will take you to the next step.
If an employer wants you to apply online using the system, there will be a link titled "Click here to apply now."
-
On the Online Application page, you can choose to send any or all of the following from the "Manage My Job
Search Documents" page: Resume, Cover Letter, Transcript, and Other Job Search Documents. After you've made
your selection, click on "Send Application" at the bottom of the page.

-
If you have a dual major or more than one degree, it may be necessary to revisit your "ZotLink Account Registration"
and change the order of your major and degree. The ZotLink system matches only your first major or degree with the
employer's educational requirements.
- Check the listings often. New employers and job descriptions are added frequently.
How to Apply
-
Click "Job Title". This is where you will view company details, position titles and descriptions, requirements,
contact information, and deadlines for resume submission and interview signup. A "Submit" link will appear on the
screen if you meet the employer's requirements for the position
-
To submit your resume, click on "Submit your Resume to be Considered." Follow online prompts to select your
targeted resume and add an optional cover letter and unofficial transcript
Schedule an On-Campus Interview
Types of Interviews are "Pre-select Schedules" and "Open Schedules".
-
Pre-select Schedules: The employer will screen resumes, and pre-select its preferred candidates
to interview. If you are a pre-selected candidate, you may pick an interview time during the designated signup
period. Many employers also select "alternates" who may choose any remaining interview time slots once the pre-select
signup period has passed. The majority of interview schedules are the pre-select type.
-
Open Schedules: If you meet the employer's requirements, you may select an interview time right on
the spot, on a first-come basis. Open schedules may not always require resume submission in advance. It is a good idea
to bring your resume to the interview.

The Interview Day
Location: On-Campus Interviews are held in private interview rooms at the UCI Career Center, located at 100
Student Services I Building, across from the Cornerstone Cafe.
What to Expect: When you arrive, be sure to sign your name on the clipboard at the OCI reception desk and
have a seat. The recruiter will call your name when it is time for your interview and escort you to the interview room.
Don't be Late: Arrive 5 - 10 minutes before your interview time. If you're late or miss your appointment,
you will be subject to Late Cancellation and No Show penalties, not to mention the less-than-sterling impression you'll make
with the recruiter.
Prepare for the Interview
Do your Research. Review the employer's job listings and visit their web site so that you will be
knowledgeable about the industry, company and position. The UCI Career Center also has literature in the Career Library about
certain companies. If the company holds an Information Session, be sure to attend.
Practice. There's no reason to get butterflies or sweaty palms if you're ready to respond smoothly, positively
and enthusiastically to the employers' questions. You can anticipate possible interview questions by attending the UCI Career
Center's free job interview workshops.
Attend skill-building workshops. Take advantage of free UCI Career Center workshops, including Practice
Interviews . You may obtain expert advice on interviewing strategies, salary negotiation and other employment topics from Career
Center staff. Click here for a current workshop schedule.
How to Dress: Conservative business attire is recommended. Most On-Campus Interview (OCI) participants wear a
dark suit or coordinates. Jeans, t-shirts and running shoes are rarely appropriate.
Reasons for ZotLink Suspension
Your ZotLink privileges will be suspended for one or more of the following conditions:
-
Excessive late cancellations and "no shows" for On-Campus Interviews (OCI). Be sure to read and remember "Rescheduling and Late
Cancellation" Guidelines (coming soon!).
-
Inappropriate use of services. This includes providing your personal username/password to another individual, allowing someone
else to use your "ZotLink Account Registration" to apply for campus interview positions, unethical behavior and misconduct.
-
False information. This includes submitting inaccurate information in your "ZotLink Account Registration" and "Job Search
Documents."
