Networking

Networking is the process of establishing mutually beneficial relationships with professionals in your field or related field. It is one of the most successful ways to find a new job

 Ways to Network:

Contact your existing network - friends, family, neighbors, college alumni, people in associations - anyone who might help generate information and job leads.

Conduct informational interviews using the Career Connections Network  or through your existing contacts/

Email can be a great tool for networking. Be sure to keep your message brief and concise and always double check your spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Get involved in relevant professional or social associations. You'll find that many of the participants have the same goals you do and will be glad to exchange business cards.

Visit discussion boards like the Job Search Forum to network with career professionals and other job seekers.  Use Vault's message boards or visit one of the sites, like LinkedIn, that focus on online job search and career networking.

Career Fairs, Information Sessions, and other Career Center Events are great opportunities to meet creditable professionals on campus.

TIP: Follow through with referrals, and always thank contacts in writing

Check the events calendar for upcoming networking events at the Career Center
