Career Connections FAQs
What is the Career Connections directory?
The Career Connections on-line database is a resource for students and alumni to gather career related information and gain insight and advice into career decision-making. It's also a great way to begin networking with UCI alumni and community members from your own major or interest area. Professionals have been invited from all fields and professions to share their experiences with you. The Career Connections directory grows each quarter, so please check back regularly for new networking opportunities.
Will the contacts in the Career Connections Directory help me find a job or internship?
No. The Directory is an informational resource only; not a job or internship service.
How does it work?
The Career Connections directory categorizes professionals by major, occupation, job title, company and location. Select a career field of your interest or other search criteria and then select "Submit Search" at the bottom of the search engine to scan by selected field(s). Search results show the information each professional submitted. Find an individual you want to talk to and contact him or her for an informational interview. For additional information on how to conduct an informational interview, click here (pdf).
How do I conduct an "Informational Interview"?
Conducting an Informational Interview involves talking with people who are currently working in various industries to gain a better understanding about that field and to build a network. Simply contact members using their preferred method and go from there! Click here (pdf) to find out more.
How do I use the Career Connections directory?
While the UCI Career Connections Directory provides contacts for your career search it is important to keep in mind that the information you collect is only one means of exploring your career options. Remember that one person's opinion may often be biased--don't accept everything at face value. Be sure to balance your career exploration with other UCI Career Center resources.
Where else can I go for help about my Career Plans?
